A PEARfect Inspiration For many artists it can take years to develop their own personal style. A style possessing a nuance, that by quick glance, allows recognition of that artist's work. I have been painting for years and, although my work has gone through waves of one style or another, I continue to define my personal style. It occurred to me that what I love most is the variety of techniques available to us as artists now. I am intrigued by new tools, supplies, ideas, techniques and colors. I thought it would be fun to focus on one single subject for a while and apply as many techniques as possible. Fruit has been a staple in my art, and artists in general have always included fruit or let fruit influence their art. For eternity we've been filling a bowl with fruit and painting, drawing, photographing, sculpting the shape and color of fruit. Pears seem to possess a human organic form. Some see the shape of a woman in them, others a tear drop. Pears are so user friendly. No one passionately hates pears. They do not convey a religious, political, or economic connotation. I find they are simply the most perfect shape to play with. Admiration of past artist's styles has led me on a fun journey for each piece. I felt I went through some of the same pains to not only stay true to an individual style but also to make a beautiful piece in the process. It is the process that make us artists.
